YPM October Update - COVID and HURRICANES

Hello dear friends of YPM,

As you know, our YPM family in Mexico has been continuing to help the Maya people with essential groceries and hot meals throughout the pandemic. Recently, we held our breath as the Yucatan Peninsula braced for two potentially serious hurricanes. Hurricanes Gamma and Delta hit the area with high winds which flooded homes and downed trees and utility poles causing power outages and blocked many roads, but were not as destructive as they could have been, and our team and the people in the area are safe.

Not long ago, the YPM Institute was designated by the Mexican government as a hurricane evacuation center for the area. We are so grateful to be able to serve those who need a place of refuge during these big storms. When Hurricane Delta hit last week, we provided refuge to approximately 20 people, including babies, elderly and disabled. Here are some photos of the facility and the area.

The area was without electricity, purified water to drink, water to flush toilets, and telephone signal for about a week. Wilian said they were surprised by how a Category 4 hurricane was reduced to 2 and that it crossed through the area very quickly. We thank God for his mercy.

This week the team delivered the 4th round of groceries in Leona Vicario and 400 families received these essential goods. Wilian is now starting a program to register the families so he can keep a record of each family’s situation and specific needs. Along with Wilian and Erly, there are 20 pastors serving Leona Vicario and the surrounding villages. More pictures from the latest disbursement here.

Please continue to keep Wilian and Erly, their family, the area pastors, the school staff, students, and the Maya people in your prayers. We are grateful for your support and love. Our prayer is that we will be able to schedule some mission trips in 2021 and be able to work alongside and hug each of you.

With gratitude,

YPM Board
